The Red Lights of Shanghái

Walking down the riverside,
Yangtzé is full of pride,
I leave the red lights behind,
wave farewell to Shanghái.
I left my heart in a golden cage,
a single man bears the key,
he owns this time and age,
he is a king,
the bearer of gold and outrage.
He walked me down the stage,
rose me up to his realm,
dressed me up on silk and jade
and walked me down the aisle of his pretend.
I'm a simple lady,
I don't wish for much,
open up your heart
and I will gift you mine back.
I'm leaving Shanghái,
the red lights behind,
I know that your love
is just a lie...
So I'm leaving Shanghái
and my heart behind
You put a crown upon my head,
and in gold chained my wrists,
you locked up my heart
and left it to starve for dreams
I'm a simple lady
I don't wish for diamonds,
if you say you love me
I'll give up my heart for you
I'm leaving Shanghái,
the red lights behind,
your love for me
was just a lie...
So I'm leaving Shanghái
Like a trophy on your stand
you paid for me, you dressed me up,
you bought my body, I gifted my heart,
I have nothing left but pride and hurt
I'm a simple lady,
I don't wish for gold,
if you tell me "I love you"
I'll love you in return
I'm leaving Shanghái
the red lights behind,
your loving words
were but a lie...
So I'm leaving Shanghái,
the red lights and you behind,
you showed me around,
a trophy of your hunt,
I loved you in return,
I lived a dream,
a fantasy,
among the red lights
of Yangtzé's riverside.
But I woke up
and so...
I'm leaving Shanghái
and the red lights behind.
