Never old enough

I wished to be your poetry
To bring lyrics into your life
The way you were my music
And put the beat onto mine.
Would we be a whole song then?
One that resounds through time,
We are a worn out sheet instead,
A note-less stave.
Fading to yesterday.
I'm trying to go back
To yesterday 's night,
When there was a you and I
When there was a you and I...
They said I was too young to understand
Now I know you are never old enough,
Life keeps turning around
Senseless, there was never an answer
So I shall not regret
The day I took your hand,
Dancing to our heartbeats,
You were my paradise,
If only for a bit,
My piece of heaven on land.
Now we are fading
Fading to yesterday
When there was a you and I
When there was a you and I...
I was never too young
To understand what's love about,
Adults said we were running ahead
But what did they know?
Oh, what did they know?
Now an adult myself
I've come to understand
That you are never old enough,
Oh, you are never old enough.
That little girl who walked around
Scribbling love riddles on her notebook,
That little girl understood,
She just felt,
She just loved.
And isn't that
What love's all about?
That little girl too
Is fading,
Fading to yesterday

When there was a you and I,
When there was a you and I...
When she was young enough to love,
When love needed no understanding
She'll never be old enough,
Oh, never old enough
